When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

Recently I organized guest lecture on “Industrial Design and Visual Perception” at my organization. Speaker talked about industrial design, his background in product design and the process of product design. Somewhere he used quote from Wayne Dyer

When you change the way look at things, the things you look at change. – Wayne Dyer

Of course it was followed by relevant example in product design space. However the quote made me think. It is not that I heard this quote for the first time but this is the first time, it made me think a lot and I started comparing it with life that we live. As I thought more about this quote, I realized it is true in each and everything that we do whether it be our daily job, love life, or even professional life. Earlier I had written about Relativity of life in terms of Success and Failure. But I think it applies to everything. For example, there are some things that we like but there will be people who will hate those things. There are multiple factors affecting that , their background, their upbringing and their core values. Recently I read somewhere that some famous scientist’s school headmaster wrote a note to his mother. His mother cried after reading the note from school headmaster. When kid asked mother about the letter, she said “You school headmaster said: ‘Your child are too smart. We don’t have enough good teachers to teach your child.Teach him at your home’ “. Later he became the very famous scientist. I am not sure about the scientist but I think it was Galileo. After his mother died, one day he came across this letter from school headmaster and as soon as he completed reading, he started sobbing. The letter read “You child is dumb. We can’t have him at our school. Teach him at your home.” Inspiring ! Isn’t it ?

There is lot I can write on this topic. “If we start looking at the things from different perspective, we will get amazing results in life.”

My Friends Have Changed !!!!!

Life is amazing. Sometimes it makes us feel like friends are everything and on the other hand sometimes it makes us feel like they are no longer my friends. They become professionals. If it is the case with you then this post is for you. However always remember Life is beautiful: Live it , Learn it , Love it.  Earlier I wrote about friendship but is specific to friendship day. If you are in university pursuing your education , you may miss your old friends from previous universities/ schools OR you are professional and you miss your friends. Some day you tried calling your friend , but before call gets connected you hung phone thinking “Why should I call him/her? He/She should call me. I was his/her close friend.” Or “He/She might be busy. He/She will call me when he/she gets time.” At initial stages it is more like I should not disturb him/her but as time passes it becomes “why should I contact first?” . But my dear friend have you ever thought what your friend is thinking ? What if he/she is thinking the same way and you both were waiting for other person to contact you first. So dear reader “Nothing has changed. You are still friends. Life is still beautiful”. Don’t wait for other to contact you first.

Diwali : As We Grow

Diwali is popularly known as “Festival of Lights”. For Hindus, Diwali is one of the most important festivals of the year and is celebrated in families by performing traditional activities together in their homes. For Jains, Diwali marks the attainment of moksha or nirvana by Mahavira. Diwali commemorates the return of Lord Rama, along with Sita and Lakshmana, from his 14-year-long exile and vanquishing the demon-king Ravana. In joyous celebration of the return of their king, the people of Ayodhya, the Capital of Rama, illuminated the kingdom with earthen diyas and by bursting firecrackers.

I am not going much deeper into history in this post. For more details on Diwali , please read this . To continue my series of As We Grow: Navratri ,  Friendship Day ,  I am going to write about change in the way of “Diwali” celebration.  For a child the most exciting part is they get Diwali vacation , lots of sweets and they can play games all the day with their friends after completing their Diwali homework. Moreover they have lots of fun by bursting firecrackers. For college students they plan to visit new places during small vacation. There is not much difference till they started working/become professional. Once they start working at some company they have only few days of leave. They could not enjoy much. However there is always celebration at compan but it is “professional” celebration For them the most exciting part is they can be at their home town for few days. Although if someone is working near his/her hometown , he/she can enjoy more. However the charm they had when they were child is gone.  For Mothers, they have lots of work to do. This is the time of year when they clean up old things . And they keep themselves busy making lots of sweets. My favorite sweets are ghughra , kaju katri . My mom makes the best ghughra. 🙂

After Diwali there is Hindu New Year (Often known as Vikram New Year). On this day people wish there relatives a new year. And almost for a week people visit their near relatives’ house to wish new year. Earlier people used to have communication with their relatives often but because of the modern  lives they are living sometimes they can see their relatives once a year and that is new year.Diwali is festival of five days.Dhan Teras(It is considered an auspicious day for buying utensils and gold, hence the name ‘Dhana’.) ,Naraka Chaturdashi (kali Chaudas) (It signifies the victory of good over evil and light over darkness) , Diwali , New Year (It is celebrated as the first day of the Vikram Samvat calendar, in Gujarat.), Bhai Bij (on this day, brothers and sisters meet to express love and affection for each other) People illuminate their houses with Diyas and during these days all houses look very beautiful. I want to give one suggestion: From whatever culture you belong , always try to enjoy each and every festivals because when you move to new area/country/culture you are going to miss your place.ex

Friendship Day: As we grow

Every year friendship day is celebrated on first Sunday of August. We celebrate it every year ,but as we grow older ,the form of celebration changes. School student , college student and professionals celebrate it in a different way. In this post I am just writing how the way of celebration changes as we grow older.

1. As a School Student

First as a  school child we tie “Friendship belt” at every friends hand. Even we tie “Friendship belt(band)” to  aunt/neighbour if we have extra “Friendship belt”. And next day at the school we show one another our friendship belt  and boast if you have the highest number of  “Friendship belt”.

2. College Student

As we finish our school and most importantly HSC we enter into “golden” college life. College student are whose enjoy it fully. We have our group/class . We spend almost whole day together. The way college student enjoy this day is best described in below video.

3. Professional(1-2 year)

As we start working at somewhere, we are no more with our group and class. We meet new people who behave more professionally. But on this day we remember our friend and plan to meet somewhere at least for a day.(As it is on Sunday). And we have a great smile on our face.

4. Professional (More Experience)

As we gain more experience as well as we grow older we have responsibility and we turn ourselves busy into  these activities. But even on friendship day we remember our school/college friends and call some of them. Now we see our children enjoying their days and we are more concerned about their future.

5. Old Age

And finally comes the old age. Now we have our grand children and our children are living professional life. Now we become alone and some of our friends are no more on the earth. We are left with only sweet memories. We share our memories with our grandchildren and try to see ourselves in them.

Why I have so many Problems in my Life ???

Secret to problem solving: don't think too hard

Is it the question that you ask yourself almost everyday. You are tired of your daily hectic schedule. Then this post is for you. First of all everyone on this earth has problem. If you are a student you had problem with your study , your faculty, your school teacher , your tuition class teacher. If you are a profession , you had problem with your superiors/ colleagues. But my dear friend always remember you can not expect everyone to be yourself . This is one of the best quote from Swami Vivekanand

“In a day, when you don’t come across any problems – you can be sure that you are travelling in a wrong path”

And finally what I suggest is take your problem as challenges.
